Junior Researchers on the Move
At POLISES, we don’t just run simulations. Some of us regularly go out jogging in Leipzig’s abundant green spaces, along rivers or lakesides, across parks and forests. The annual is a fun opportunity to compete among colleagues, but also against employees of other local institutions and businesses from all sectors. Many teams dress up in elaborate costumes, and for most of the 15,000 participants, record times are not the main focus on the five-kilometre course.
My office mates and I were very happy with our results, though. While I definitely prefer running longer distances, I came in as this year’s fourth fastest out of 39 UFZ employees who competed. Felix, even though having some trouble with the dusty air at the front of the pack, smashed the 20-minute mark and came in second. And Meike, in her first running competition ever, outdid everyone else and is now officially the quickest female UFZ employee. Congratulations!
Following a decade-old tradition, every finisher received an unsightly, but indestructible coffee mug. Had there been an extra prize for the fastest crew of office mates, we would surely have been serious contenders…
